The challenge: Trying to create a database using the CVAD Install. You try to create the database, give it the domain admin credentials and… it says you don’t have access to the database. In some cases you may even try to create the scripts and it fails there as well, or you may not have permissions to logon to the console of the SQL server. It even fails when you pre-create the database! Frustrating.
Quick solution: Log into the new Broker server from which you are trying to install as the domain admin and try running the Site Manager or Studio that way… OR contact your SQL Admin to be temporarily granted the proper permissions at the SERVER level (not just the database level).
Once the DBs are created, there is a connection created of the local machine account (aka DOMAIN\SERVER$)
Don’t forget: Once the Database is created, add your Citrix Admins group to Full Administrators before you try to log on with your other account. Not using an Admins group for Citrix? Think you’re okay just making Domain Admins the Citrix Full Admins? Well – that’s a mistake waiting to happen. Think of how many people not trained to administer Citrix would suddenly have access!
Other Assumptions: That the domain admin account has the proper SQL rights mapped. And of course, this may not fix all problems. This is just something that’s tripped me up a few times and I thought I’d share!
